Lines

After a recent visit home to Seattle I was confronted with a friend who had recently had her expression lines removed. I have of course heard of this process but haven't fully been interactive with it. She brought me into her bathroom and told me to squish my face. We starred at each others squished up faces in the mirror but no lines of expression appeared anywhere on her face. She responded to my look of intrigue 'yeah isn't it great no expression lines!’ This fascinated me, no expression lines, yet she was able to gauge my amazement by my facial expression. This has me thinking of lines of emotions and lines of character embedded in society.

One perspective on expression lines;
Eliphas Levi believed that the fatalities of life are written necessarily in the facial wrinkles. Levi explained that in wrinkles on the forehead one or more letters of the kabalistic cross are revealed. If the letter wrinkle on the forehead appears jagged, scared or deep it means there is an interpersonal struggle between fatality and will.

This then has me thinking of sculpture as emotional forms. What kind of form would courage take or compassion? What happens to you if people can't visual see your emotional transitions of expression, does one have to start talking more tonally or expressing with their hands more?
